Dearest readers,
Tomorrow I leave for a five-day school trip with my children to a place far away from WiFi hotspots, one where laptop computers, ipods, ipads, and the like are not only discouraged, but simply not allowed. So, The Shepherd and the Olive Tree will sit, untended, while I am gone. Although I’m looking forward to a break from the glow of the computer screen, I’m also eager to get back at blogging when we return. When we do, I plan to explore some of the traditions and foods of fasting in Greece since it is, after all, now the “Great Fast.” I will also write about the wood-fired ovens in our village and the delicious breads that emerge from them, organic olive production in the Mani Peninsula, honey, cheese (arguably my favorite subject), and whatever else my imagination and fancy conjure.
I look forward to exploring these themes and offering recipes to accompany them. Until then, I wish for you beautiful early spring days, much joy, laughter, good food, and friendship and, since tomorrow is Monday, Καλή εβδομάδα, or “good week!”
With warmest wishes,
Alexis (Lexy) Adams.
Καλό ταξίδι!
Thank you, Christos! It was a grand adventure!
